SPORTS/ACTIVITIES
Sports Physicals
Sports Medicine Information: Sports Physicals & Concussion Baseline Testing for 2022-2023 School Year
St. Pius X High School requires each student-athlete to have MSHSAA sports physicals on file prior to being allowed to participate in a sport. We have a partnership with Healthy Roster as our online health forms platform where everything will be submitted electronically. The physical examination forms are valid for two years from the date the evaluator signs it, unless otherwise noted. All other MSHSAA forms must be updated and signed annually. St. Pius X High School does NOT accept paper copies of these forms.
NEW STUDENTS: Parents will receive an email invitation from Healthy Roster to set-up an account to complete your student-athlete’s paperwork. This email will be sent out on June 1st. Once you create an account, you will find all of the MSHSAA paperwork under the documents tab.
RETURNING STUDENTS: You can log into your Healthy Roster account at any time to complete all of the documents. The system is set-up that your annual requirements will expire on June 1st. However, you can go in and fill out an updated form at any time. Just click upload new document, select one of the annual requirements (student athlete medical questionnaire, student agreement, parent agreement, insurance verification, and concussion awareness form) to complete the form.
We ask all families and student-athletes to complete their profiles no later than JULY 15TH for fall student-athletes. This allows Courtney time to review and approve all sports physicals prior to her maternity leave.
On June 27th from 5pm – 7:30pm, we will host a sports physical night at the school to give you an opportunity to get your sports physical complete if you wish. The cost will be $10, cash or checks only. To sign up for a time slot, please use the following link: tinyurl.com/SPXSportsPhysicals

All baseline testing will be scheduled with the head coach and the team will be notified when that testing date will be. For fall sport student-athletes, we will complete testing during the summer prior to the fall season starting. Questions? Please contact Courtney Wohlwend at cwohlwend@spxkc.org

CELEBRATING OUR WARRIORS
ST. PIUS X BELLATOR CHRISTI AWARD
A brand new award for the 2021-2022 school year, The St. Pius X Bellator Christi (Warrior for Christ) seeks to honor one senior who displays the exemplary qualities of an SPX student.
Faith Centered - Academically Excellent - Service Minded
Six seniors, three male and three female, will be nominated by the faculty and staff based on their leadership, humility, love and responsibility through their faith, education and their service during their time at St. Pius X. They will be asked to create a team and participate in Warrior Week, April 25-29. This week will be a time for students to rally around the nominated seniors by showing their support throughout the week by participating in daily challenges. At the end of the week, the winner will be crowned as “Bellator Christi” and will receive a scholarship for use toward their post-secondary education.
GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATION: While other SPX awards are based primarily on academic merit, athletic achievement, or popularity among fellow students, the St. Pius X Bellator Christi Award will address a student’s comprehensive participation over their years to the SPX community in the areas of faith, academics, and service.
PRIZE: The SPX Bellator Christi will receive a scholarship of $1000 from the Joe Witherow Jr. Memorial Fund to use toward their post-secondary education.

Welcome to the Warrior Family
CELEBRATING OUR WARRIORS
Anna participated as a singer in this past weekend’s 2022 Catholic Charities Celebration of Hope Gala at Starlight Theatre. She sang along with three adult members of our diocese, including the Director of Music & Liturgy from St. James in Liberty, the Director of Music & Liturgy from Nativity of Mary in Independence and a teacher/theatre director from Nativity of Mary. The event’s performance shared Broadway musical selections to help tell the story of how Catholic Charities helps the underserved and some of the most vulnerable individuals within our community. Anna, along with the other singers, helped raise more than $1,020,000.00 on Saturday evening! There were a number of St. Pius friends, family and alumnae attending the event on Saturday night, including our very own Mr. Gardner and Katie Revnew. Way to go Anna!
Congratulations to SPX Senior Megan Giffin, SPX Junior Bri Witthar, and SPX Junior Annalise Dunn for being named to the KC Classic All Tournament Team. Way to go Ladies!
Scholar Bowl
The Scholar Bowl team placed 2nd out of 10 teams in the Class 4 District tournament in Savannah. The team went 4-1, with their only loss to Savannah in the championship. SPX Senior Emmet Haugh was the top scorer for the tournament and made the All-District team.
Our season ends with a record of 39 wins-15 losses-and 1 tie, which is one of our better seasons on record! Way to go Warriors!

Prom Dress Code
Prom and other SPX dances are school events and reflect the values and standards of our school. SPX’s Dress Code will be strictly enforced at all formal dances and must be followed by all students attending - both St. Pius X students and their guests. Anyone not in compliance with the Dress Code will not be admitted to the dance and refunds will not be issued.
If you are bringing a date from another school, it is your responsibility to make him/her aware of the Dress Code. St. Pius X Dress Code requires attire that reflects modesty and good taste. Prom dress should not only be modest and appropriate, but also fit properly and be neat and clean. All students are expected to be well-groomed and reflect good personal hygiene. If you have questions about your dress, it is your responsibility to seek prior approval from the administration. These guidelines may be helpful reminders of St. Pius X’s Dress Code as applied to formal dances, including the prom.

CAFETERIA NEWS
Students and parents - please take time to look at lunch balances on LunchLink or on the lunch line to prevent PowerSchool from being locked. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns at mwitherow@spxkc.org
GENERAL ILLNESS
Please contact the front office and have your student email their teachers for work they will miss if they are out. Teachers are able to respond directly to your student with information specific to their class. If your student isn’t feeling well, please stay home. Please do not come to school or extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, performances) if feeling sick. Students need to be 24 hour symptom free before returning to classes and extracurricular activities.
SERVICE HOURS
We have rolled out the new system to enter and track service hours for students. The process has changed COMPLETELY for your students. THEY now have the primary role in logging their hours. You can find more information HERE.

COUNSELING NEWS
The Kansas City Police Department has reported that between 2019 and 2020, the KC metro area saw a 149% increase in fentanyl overdose deaths, and the greatest at-risk age group is those aged 15-24 years old. I can’t stress to kids enough that they should NOT TAKE PILLS from anyone, unless they come from the pharmacy and are prescribed by their doctor. Any over the counter pills should only be taken from their parents and NO ONE ELSE! Even marijuana is being laced with Fentanyl now. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE and it’s right in front of us. If you would like additional information, consider attending the upcoming Community Drug Education Summit. Please talk to your kids about this and contact me with any concerns.
2021-2022 Test Dates: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html . Prep guides are available in Ms. Callahan's office.
Junior and Senior Prom and After Prom
All SPX Juniors and Seniors who fulfilled their Spaghetti dinner requirements are invited to attend Prom at Heritage Hall in Liberty, Mo. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 and After Prom on Saturday, April 23-24 at Powerplay Entertainment Center off Barry Road. Permission to ride go karts is necessary for all individuals who plan to partake in all the fun. A parent signature is required. Parents and students please look for an email with more information soon.
