In what have you staked your dignity? Is it in what you do, what people think about you, who you enjoy spending time with, how you serve others? What makes it difficult to see your dignity as something that is already given to you by virtue of being human, created in God’s image and likeness? How can you grow in your awareness of your value being rooted in God’s love and not in your accomplishments?

If you have the opportunity, spend some time with a baby less than one year of age (a sibling, cousin, child you babysit, etc.) or with an elderly person who is limited physically or mentally. Afterwards, write your reflection on the child’s or elderly person’s dignity. Do you believe he/she has dignity? Why or why not? Did it seem like the child was truly a person? Why or why not? What could a baby reveal to us about what it means to be human?
