This course is for non-Catholic students who are discerning if they would like to join the Catholic Church. The course will focus on the richness and beauty of the Catholic faith as it has been lived by the People of God since the founding of the Church on Pentecost. Students will study and explore the sacred Scriptures, sacred Traditions, prayers, sacraments and Liturgy of the Catholic Church. As students progress in their prayerful exploration and understanding of Catholicism, they will be given the opportunity to freely discern if they would like to join the Catholic faith through a series of “rites” that culminate in the Sacraments of Christian Initiation at the Easter Vigil Mass. *This course fulfills 1 of the 4 Theology credits that are required for graduation.
The focus of the course will be on developing critical thinking abilities and decision-making using data in everyday life. Emphasis will be on statistical reasoning underlying the methods of sampling, statistical inference in terms of evaluating the accuracy of an estimate in the context of uncertainty, drawing conclusions from data, and studying relationships in data. Students may elect to sign up for advanced college credit through UMKC.

Topics covered include: solving and graphing (one and two variable) linear equations and inequalities, problem solving, factoring, solving systems of linear equations, simplifying rational expressions, simplifying radicals, fractional exponents, imaginary numbers, and an introduction to linear and quadratic functions. This course provides the foundation for further mathematical understanding and success.
