Treble Choir

Credits: 0.5

The Treble Choir is an introductory choir at St. Pius X that gives students a strong foundation for success in a high-school choir setting. We learn repertoire of varying difficulties and learn important musicianship skills such as sight-singing and rhythm. We perform at school Masses, feeder school events, and end-of-semester concerts, and compete in district and regional events. This choir prepares students to enter Sarton Singers (varsity-level choir).

Music History & Appreciation

Credits: 0.5

What makes great music? What is artistry, and how can a deeper understanding of artistry across musical styles help us to live deeper, more reflective lives? This course introduces students to great music across genres with a focus on classical, jazz, rock, and hip hop. We will study the artistry of famous composers like Mozart and Beethoven as well as contemporary icons like the Beatles, Taylor Swift, and Kendrick Lamar. Across these examples, we will attain insight into how great music expands our knowledge of the world, our creativity, our relationships with others, and our faith.

Sarton Singers

Credits: 1

This performance-based ensemble is designed for the more experienced singer. It is open to male and female students in Grades 9 through 12. This group will sing for school liturgies, programs, and events/competitions outside of school. Participation in such events is mandatory. Music, theory, and vocal development are more advanced than that of Mixed Chorus. Enrollment is by vocal audition, proven knowledge of theory, and permission of the instructor. Students in Sartons usually enter the District Music Competition with many qualifying for State.
