The SPX Scholar Bowl Team competed at Fort Osage on November 1st and finished in second place with 4 wins and 2 very close losses. Cole Harms received an All   Tournament Medal as he was 5th highest in scoring among all participants.

Procedures for Illness Occurring During School Hours
As cold and flu season kicks in please note the diocesan policy on sending your student to school.  Please take a moment to review, we understand students do not want to miss class, but if they have the symptoms listed please keep them home.

Any student who has a fever of 100°F or greater must remain at home for 24 hours with a normal temperature prior to returning to school.  The student may be re-admitted if free from fever, vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours.

• Any student sent home for any of the following reasons should be evaluated in the health room by the nurse or other school personnel during the day of his or her return:

1. Contagious disease

2. Impetigo, pink eye or ringworm

3. An injury which was sustained or illness which occurred during school hours

4. Bone fracture

Information on Snow Day Communication
We use an automated telephone broadcasting system to communicate School Closings to you. For snow days, the call will be launched between 5:30 - 6:30 a.m., or the night before if we know ahead of time. The Caller ID will display 816-453-3450, which is the main number for SPX.  All parent phone numbers that are in PowerSchool have been uploaded into this system.  We will also post message on our Social Media and Website.   If you would like to opt into text messages from this system, please text the word ALERT to 22300.

Mr Murphy's Weekly Counseling Newsletter has an important ACT section for all parents to keep you abreast of current information. ACT Corner  Be advised--it is highly recommended that each student have a genuine ACT score on file by the end of sophomore year.  FYI--any student interested in ACCP PreCalculus or ACCP College Algebra will need a genuine 21 Math score prior to enrollment.

KC Scholars Information for Junior Parents and Freshmen Parents-Important!
There are 2 scholarships involved here that could assist you as your child continues at SPX. Go to this website for initial information:

• KC Scholars
• Do the FAFSA4lCaster to see if you are eligible FAFSA4Caster
• If eligible, have your son / daughter prepare to ask for recommenders, whether they be teachers, counselors, coaches, youth ministers, or others as defined by the KC Scholars program; these are part of the application process
• Ask your junior or freshman to pick up an information tag in the hallway or a printed flyer from Mr. Murphy
• The application opens January 1, 2019.  Deadline is 1 March 2019.
• General information sessions about this will be available soon; dates forthcoming in this newsletter.  Tentatively, I understand, the Gladstone Community Center will be one of them
• Applicants will need to know that there are two essays involved and these are significantly important
