The issue of addiction for young people is huge: addiction to alcohol, marijuana, vaping, hard drugs, cell phones.
Our speaker will present a powerful personal story of addiction and recovery. It should be of paramount importance that one parent from each family attend. We have in the planning stages a presentation and processing discussion for students as well.
COUNSELING DEPARTMENT-3rd PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT-ANXIETY PRESENTATION:
Tuesday, November 19th in the Logan Center, starting at 7pm. Topic: "Anxiety, Depression, Coping with Anxiety." Statistics say that more than 50% of teens have major depressive episodes and over 60% have issues with anxiety. Important to come to learn how to help kids manage anxiety.
HELPFUL HANDBOOK HINTS:
SERVICE HOUR REQUIREMENTS
The purpose of the service requirement is to heighten an awareness of the plight of the less fortunate, to develop in our students a sense of civic responsibility and a sense of Christian stewardship. St. Pius X students are required to perform 60 hours of service for graduation. Students can either achieve a balance between their community, Parish, and school (with a minimum of 20 required in their community); or they may opt to perform all 60 hours in their community at one or many of the locations listed on our website. https://spxkc.org/community-service
No payment may be rendered or accepted by students for service. Students may not miss instructional time at school, or any part of a school day, in order to complete service hours to meet graduation requirements.
Because we want our students to develop a sense of civic responsibility, the majority of service should be done in the community, for approved agencies. All service hours need to be properly documented for credit towards graduation. A supervisor—not the student—from where he/she is volunteering, must complete a service hour form. These forms are available on our website: www.spxkc.org. Students are responsible for getting them to the agencies.
Once the forms are completed, they need to be turned in to the front office within two weeks of performing the service. Students are required to remain current regarding service hours (7.5 hours/semester) for transcripts to be sent to any school.
60 TOTAL. 20 CAP ON PARISH. 20 CAP ON SPX.
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS--FALL CONCESSIONS
Please check the concession schedule as changes have been made. We are hosting volleyball and soccer districts so days have been added.
If there are any conflicts, please find someone to switch days. Each family is responsible to find their own replacement should a conflict arise. At least one parent from each family, or both are welcome, must work your scheduled event or you will be assessed a $200 fee. If you have any questions, please contact Toni Calcara at toni.calcara@gmail.com or call or text at 816‐522‐0498. Thank you.
