Personal Finance & Investments
Grade Level: 10,11,12
Course Length: 1 Semester
Credit: ½
Course Description:
An introduction to personal finance fundamentals including career decisions, money management, investing, credit, and risk. The student will learn financial methods and tools that prepare them to manage their money and achieve their financial goals.
SPX Student Portfolio:
Each semester, all classes taught by Mr. Niblock compete in an investing competition. Twice a semester the students in each hour are allowed a set amount of the teacher's actual money to invest in real stocks.
The stock selections are made entirely by the students. This student-controlled portfolio grows every semester as new students get to select their stocks for the competition. The current portfolio is linked off to the left of this page where you can view which classes selected which stocks and how they've performed since purchasing them. All dividends are automatically reinvested and all selections are designed to be held for at least a year (to minimize capital gains taxes).
