Please see the statements below from the Diocese of KCSJ and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops following SCOTUS decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health
While we welcome this week’s good news for the value of human life, it is important to remember that the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision regarding Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health does not put a universal end to abortion. Decisions about access to abortion now reside with our state governments. This Supreme Court decision does not change abortion access in the State of Missouri. The diocese stands ready to meet the increased demand for resources that may result with an renewed focus on alternatives to abortion. The Catholic Church’s opposition to abortion is well-documented and has not wavered. The Catholic Church is also the world’s largest provider of resources to mothers, fathers and families facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies, regardless of their faith tradition, through Catholic Charities’ Child and Family Services, many smaller organizations and parish commitments across the globe. Anyone affected by abortion in our area will still have the same resources available to them regardless of this change in federal law. We also expect new resources and improved access to them will develop in the coming months. [For online statement only: Download a printable list of current resources HERE. ] The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph will continue its commitment to defend the dignity of every human person and the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. This includes redoubling our efforts to compassionately accompany mothers and fathers who are facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies, as well as to offer compassion and mercy to those suffering from abortion. CAFETERIA NEWS
Please read the following important message from our wonderful cafeteria manager, Marcia Witherow:
St. Pius X High School Cafeteria's goal is to provide delicious food for a great value. By working together as a school community, it can be done!
All parents are welcome to sign up and assist with serving lunch. The times needed vary with the lunch shifts (Monday/Tuesday/Friday, Wednesday Block,Thursday Block) but usually start around 10:45am/11:00am and end by 12:45pm/1:00pm. When a parent volunteers, the parent AND their student(s) eat for free that day! The parent volunteer duties consist of helping serve the lunch, making sandwiches, refilling containers or restocking for the next lunch, etc...
Also, every St. Pius X student can volunteer on their own (we have a sign up at the beginning of every 6 weeks when the lunch schedule changes). When the students volunteer they could be either serving lunch, helping with recycling or refilling coolers, etc. The student then receives their lunch for FREE that day! If your student is on work study, they will also receive credit for working as well.
Volunteering in the cafeteria is a great way to meet other St. Pius X parents, assisting the school community and a chance to say ‘Hi’ to your child! We really enjoy working with the parents and kids so everyone benefits. We have so much fun in the cafeteria that some parents have continued to volunteer even after their students have graduated from SPX.
Please email Marcia Witherow at mwitherow@spxkc.org with any cafeteria questions or Vicki Malott at vmalott@spxkc.org if you would like to be put on the Parent Volunteer schedule next school year. You can volunteer once a month or (every Friday, every other Wednesday, etc...) really whatever your schedule allows would be great.
