Information here regards the High School Placement Test, AP Testing, PLAN, the ACT, the PSAT and SAT, and the CLEP -- the ACT and SAT are both college entrance exams.
The PSAT/NMSQT: The PSAT is an SAT preparatory exam; it is also the test for National Merit scholarships. Students who score in the top 3% are eligible for National Merit consideration. This is optional for junior SPX students and SPX sophomores who desire additional standardized testing practice and another change to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. It is given in the Fall. There are several opportunities in the Northland to take practice tests (sponsored by Kaplan organization). The PSAT was redesigned in 2015; see how: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sites/default/files/counselor-resource-guide-to-the-redesigned-assessments.pdf
Presently, all students (except seniors) take a practice ACT test sponsored by the Cambridge company on the All-School Testing Day, October 13, 2021. Each student receives an extensive report about ten days after the assessment.
AP Testing occurs for students taking AP classes during the first two weeks in May. Those enrolled are assessed the fee in September (tuition billing). There are 35 AP courses; students may take additional AP exams for possible credit or higher placement at the college level if they wish (the student must contact the AP test coordinator -- Mr. Lee -- if they wish to do so.
