Course Description: This course aims to foster the development of oral and scientific communication skills of advanced Zoology students. This course is offered each year to all students who have successfully completed Zoology I. Students are expected to work with their mentor to create a full length research seminar presentation based on their dissertation research or literature review that was the product of their scientific writing course, a platform to foster the development of their written scientific communication skills in zoology. Students will present their seminars to the panel of judges at the end of each semester. At the end of the presentation, students are expected to interact with members of the audience in a question-a/documents/2024/8/Zoology%20II%20Syllabus%20-%20Google%20Docs.pdfnd-answer format. Student’s presentation will receive critique and evaluation by the department judges in attendance. Students and their mentors will use the judges critique for debriefing and improvement. Students who are not presenting are required to attend all seminar presentations and interact with the presenting student through the questions-and-answer format. Through this process, students gain valuable experience of the entire process of oral scientific presentation and steadily improve their presentation skills over the course of the year. The research project will be supplemented with choice topics chosen by students throughout the year.
